Over the past 20 years, e-commerce has become widespread and is a part of most people’s daily lives. eCommerce, also known as electronic commerce or e-commerce, refers to the buying and selling of goods or services over the Internet and the transfer of money and data to carry out those transactions.
E-commerce was responsible for $ 2.3 trillion in sales in 2017 alone, and that number is projected to nearly double to $ 4.5 trillion in 2021 by 2040. For entrepreneurs like Chris Jenkins, eCommerce was a fresh start.
Introduction to e-commerce
Chris recalls his introduction to e-commerce through dropshipping, an e-commerce method where an online store sells products to consumers. With dropshipping, however, the goods go directly from the wholesaler to the end user without being handled or stored by the retailer.
Chris started his dropshipping journey out of great desperation while living in Dubai. He had lost his job but was determined not to return to Britain as a failure. “I bought www.selfiestick.co.uk and started dropshipping selfie sticks during the selfie stick trend.”
One Sunday, while having a beer with a friend, Chris got a foretaste of the financial benefits that can be achieved through dropshipping and the world of eCommerce. Chris tried again, selling men’s bracelets, watches, and eventually thousands of other products online.
For Chris, dropshipping was a stepping stone on his journey to entrepreneurship. “All in all, I gained experience through dropshipping, which I mainly gained during a commercial apprenticeship. It’s like a crash course for all you need to know and, if done right, can give you the stepping stone to building a scalable long-term business. “
Birth of the luxury brand Giovvani
This long-time business for Chris has taken shape in the form of Giovvani.
“Although I still own and operate a few dropshipping businesses, my focus now is to grow Giovvani into a well-known global brand with a reputation for product excellence.”
Giovvani is a luxury comfort sneaker brand that focuses on clean, minimalist shoes.
“I’ve needed a pair of casual sneakers on my travels, but found it incredibly difficult to get something that wasn’t covered in over-the-top designs and branding. It was then that I decided to launch Giovvani and produce a luxury sneaker brand that met my initial needs. “
Chris shared that he has always been involved in mens and womenswear throughout his eCommerce journey, so the advent of Giovvani felt like a natural evolution in his area of experience.
“I believe that we can offer a very high standard product for Giovvani; However, the branding of the product gives every customer a real sense of luxury, be it in terms of aesthetic appearance or physical material. “
The handmade shoes are only sold online to avoid the cost of selling through large retail stores.
As Chris continues his eCommerce journey, he describes Giovvani as more than just a sneaker. “It offers an incomparable feeling of luxury and at the same time is a select movement for people who want to upgrade their shoes.”
